On July 3 and 4, the Rising Sun Ball Dawgs won the Milan 10 and Under
Boys All Star Tournament.
During Saturday’s seeding round, Rising Sun suffered a tough 12-11 loss
to local rival Lawrenceburg. The Ball Dawgs were down 11-7 going into
the last inning when Levi Purvis hit a bases loaded triple to cut the
led to one and scored the tying run on a wild pitch. The score did not
last long, as Lawrenceburg scored a run in the bottom of the inning to
win 12-11. Levi Purvis and Eli Helton led the Ball Dawgs with 3 hits and
3 RBIs each. Sam Markland went 3 for 3 with a run scored. Trenton Hughes
and Asa Trentman both scored two runs while Jakob Sandlin and Jason
McClellan each scored a run.
In the second game, Rising Sun bounced back by beating Milan 5-3.
Winning pitcher Eli Helton did not allow a hit and struck out four in 3
2/3 innings of relief work. Trenton Hughes lead the team by going 2 for
3 with a run scored and a pair of runs batted in. Sam Markland posted a
1 for 2 effort with a run scored. Kameron Montgomery scored twice while
Jason McClellan scored a run by stealing home.
In the semi-finals, Rising Sun leveled Milan 18-2. Purvis lead the team
with 5 RBIs followed by Hughes with 3 RBIs and three runs scored. Asa
Trentman and Jakob Sandlin each had a pair of RBIs. Austin Parker went 2
for 2 with a run scored. Montgomery and Markland each touched the plate
three times. Helton scored twice while McClellan and Steven Jimenez each
scored a run. Sam Markland recorded the win from the hill.
In the Championship game, the Ball Dawgs faced Lawrenceburg again. In
the first inning Rising Sun jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Lawrenceburg
scored one in the bottom of the second inning to cut the lead to 2-1.
In the top of the third and one out, a single by Montgomery and a hit by
pitch to Markland got the inning going. Montgomery scored on a wild
pitch, Trentman singled and Purvis doubled scoring two followed by RBI
singles from Helton and Sandlin giving the Ball Dawgs a 7-2 lead.
Lawrenceburg cut the lead to 8-5 in the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth, Sandlin stole home to give the Ball Dawgs a 9-5
lead. Jimenez started a two out rally with a walk and got to second on a
wild pitch and was quickly driven in by a single from Montgomery. A
single by Markland put runners at the corners. Markland stole second and
Hughes’s clutch single to center drove in two runs giving Rising Sun a
12-5 Championship win
Levi Purvis went 2 for 3 with four RBIs followed by Kameron Montgomery 3
for 4 with three runs and an RBI. Winning Pitcher Trenton Hughes was 3
for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Eli Helton had a run, RBI and recorded
the save. Sam Markland scored twice while Asa Trentman, Jakob Sandlin
and Steven Jimenez each scored a run.
