The annual Rising Sun High School Athletic Awards Banquet was held Thursday, June 10 in the school cafeteria. Kelci Lange and Nate Minks were honored as the top scholar athletes while Lange and Andrew Pulliam were voted the top female and male athlete and Lange also took home a letter blanket as did Alex Dennis and teryn Elder. Lange was also named to the all-state honorable mention academic team in softball. There were numerous first year letterwinners including: Callie Baxter, Brent Cummings, Katie Duncan, Kreigh Liggett, Garrett Craig, Ben Hamilton, Nathan Hannan, Brandon Turner, Dustin Wismann, Jenna Kendrick, Beth Markland, Aly Minks, Chrissy Monroe, Kennedy Oser, Jessica Sporleder, Evan Althoff, Miles Morris, Taylor Adams, Brittany Aldred, Jessica Huber, Jennifer Rowell, Sydney Shell, Peter Ramsey, Zach Scudder, Candie Armstrong, Christin Batista, Ciera Palaima, Ali Bostic, Brittany Camden, Joey Reese. Jacket awards were won by Kelsey Baillie, Kent Eads, Tiffany Brown, Anthony Nierlich, Jessica Fields, Trent Pickett, Lindsey Morano, Ricky Sparks, Jaime Finley, Felicia Henry, Jaclyn Kolodzik, Alex Grace, Megan Pickett, Haley O'Shaughnessy, Adam Hummel, Jake Willhite, Nathan Armstrong. Editors note: Below are a list of the girls sports awards with the boys to be published next week. Cross Country awards were swept by Chelsea Bowman. She was named captain, MVP and scoring champion. Felicia Henry, Jaclyn Kolodzik and Haley OShaughnessy earned letters in girls cross country. The volleyball team won the sectional this past year and had plenty of honors to share. Kayla Kelly, Megan Pickett and Brenna Keith were named defensive MVPs with Kelly and Kelci Lange named offensive MVP. Lange also won the serving award. Letterwinners included managers Callie Baxter, Brent Cummings, Kreigh Liggett, Brittany Philpot and Hannah Crouch. Also, Katie Duncan, Emily Smith, Leah Hamilton, brenna Keith, Megan Pickett, Kayla Kelly. Kelci Lange, Abbey Rimstidt and Alexis Robinson. Reserve team members included Taylor Adams, Jessica Delany, Samie Lozier, Jennifer Rowell, Candie Armstrong, Ali Bostic and Timmi Elbright. They were conference champs also. Teryn Elder was named captain of the girls soccer team with Kelsey Baillie defensive MVP and Lindsay Morano offensive MVP. Letterwinners included Beth Markland, Jaclyn Kolodzik, Jenna Kendrick, Amanda Stone, Jessica Fields, Candace Corsmeier, Aly Minks, Chelsea Bowman, Tiffany Brown, Jamie Finley, Krystal McCardle, Crissy Monroe, Kali Morano, Kennedy Oser, Haley OShaughnessy, Ashley Preston and Jessica Sporleder. Katie Duncan was named MVP of the girls basketball team with Teryn Elder captain and Megan Pickett winning the free throw award. Letterwinners included Samie Lozier, Jenna Kendrick, Chelsea Bowman, Kayla Kelly, Amanda Stone, Jessica Fields, Kendra Hudson, Ali Bostic, Kelsey Baillie, Katie Niccum, Kennedy Oser, Jaclyn Kolodzik, and Candie Armstrong. Shelby Elliott was named captain of the cheerleading squad. Letterwinners were Jessica Sporleder, Beth Markland, Morgan Stewart, Timmi Elbright, Chelsea Bowman, Kelci Lange, Tiffany Brown, Alison Ande, Felicia Henry, Haley OShaughnessy and Ciera Paliama. Kelsey Lange and Kyla Kelly were named MVP of the softball team with Lange selected captain and Brittany Aldred the batting title with a .419 average. Letterwinners included Kendra Hudson, Leah Hamilton, Brenna Keith, Kelsey Baillie, Brittany Camden, Jenna Kendrick, Kennedy Oser, Beth Markland, Ali Bostic, Aly Minks, Ashley Higham, Jessica Huber, Jennifer Rowell, Taylor Adams, Alaina Lind and Sydney Shell. Girls track winners included MVP and scoring leader Jaclyn Kolodzik who set a school record in the low hurdles and was ninth in the regional to finish with 247 1/2 points. Chelsea Bowman and Kolodzik were named captains. Letterwinners included Candie Armstrong, Christin Batista, Callie Baxter, Hannah Crouch, Jessica Fields, Felicia Henry, Samie Lozier, Alexis Robinson, Jessica Sporleder and Tanner Scudder.
