By Chandra L. Mattingly Staff Reporter How often has someone told you how important it is to be healthy? This month folks are invited to participate in a community health fair in Rising Sun, where free health screenings and health-related information will be available. So will massage therapy and free demonstrations, and participants will have a chance to win a stationary bike and other health-related items. Presented by the Rising Sun Medical Center, Getting to the Heart of Health will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Grand Victoria Auditorium. The Grand Victoria Casino is off Ind. 56 just north of Rising Sun. Its going to be bigger than last year, said coordinator Janet Vinson, noting this will be the events sixth year and it has grown each time. At least 53 booths are expected. New exhibitors this year include the Lawrenceburg office of Gastroenterology Consultants of Greater Cincinnati, Dr. Greg Palmers dermatology office, Aurora, and an Alzheimers support group, said Vinson. Weve got lots of free testing thats going on, she added. The Aurora Fitness Connection will give aerobics demonstrations, and the Rising Sun Wellness Center will offer free massages. The Kidney Foundation of Cincinnati will provide donor information, and Hoxworth Blood Center will promote blood donation, though it will not be drawing blood at the health fair, said Vinson. Maybe next year, she added. Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, is sponsoring several booths, and Wal-Mart will provide vision screenings. Other health screenings will include blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, nutrition, body mass index, hearing and sleep disorders. Information will be available on diabetes, weight management, smoking, preventative health, chronic disease and other topics. Participants will need to visit several booths to be eligible for the drawings. But many of the exhibitors also offer free items. There will be plenty of giveaways. It should be a good one this year, said Vinson. The health fair also is sponsored by Grand Victoria Casino and a grant from the Ohio County Community Foundation. Views: 616
